Just Perfect
As advertised, great soAfter owning a pair of the classic DT 990 Pros for years, I was excited to see what Beyerdynamic would do with the new Pro X version. The updates are subtle but impactful. The comfort is still top-notch—the velour pads are incredibly soft, and I can wear them for hours during long editing sessions without any fatigue.The real game-changer is the new 48-ohm impedance. I love that I can now use these straight out of my laptop or a phone dongle and still get great volume and clarity. This makes them far more versatile for me than my old 250-ohm pair, which needed a dedicated amp. The sound quality itself feels slightly more refined. They retain that signature Beyerdynamic “sparkle” in the highs but it’s a bit more controlled and less fatiguing. The bass is clean and tight, and the soundstage is still wonderfully wide.And finally, the detachable mini-XLR cable is a huge quality-of-life improvement. No more worries about a frayed or broken cable—it’s a small change that speaks to the durability and longevity of these headphones. Amazing headphones! I was looking for open back headphones so I can hear around me and also hear myself talk while playing and these are perfect!Also no weird foam smell as others have reported so sounds like it was just a super early batch issue.Not to mention, for $200, these are one of the few headphones out there NOT made in China or a similar country but instead are made IN GERMANY! And it SHOWS in the quality! Beyerdynamic, please don’t change this and keep making your headphones in Germany and standout among all the Chinese made products!This is because I heard Beyerdynamic has recently been bought by Cosonic International in June of 2025, so I REALLY hope the quality and building location of Germany of these headphones doesn’t change, please don’t change it Cosonic! These are AMAZING the way they are! They STAND OUT amongst a sea of Chinese, mostly Plastic Made Headphones!They also seem to be made exceptionally well with metal hinges and a metal headband! They look like they will last a long time, and Beyerdynamic provides replacement parts as well!!For $200 these headphones should last you years if not longer so def worth the buy!The big headset and earpads also fit nicely on your ears, even big ones like mine!The detachable cord is a MASSIVE upgrade over the original 990 Pro’s that have only permanently attached cords.They also sound great! Better than my Hifiman HE-5XX’s that I am replacing them with!Highly recommend these 990 Pro X’s!

Beautiful Spacious Neutral Clarity
Beautiful balanced neutral and spacious sound. Great for mixing. For casual listening you’ll need an equalizer to dial in the bass and tame a little treble. The sound stage is big. I purchased them when they first came out. Excellent value and quality build for the money. I noticed on their website that the price has already gone up an additional 50% but still a great deal for the value you get from them. The only drawback is that velor ear pads. After an hour or two of use it felt a little itchy and too warm. Besides that they are worth the purchase.

Pretty boring out of box
I prefer the sound of the original dt 990 pro than these. These sound extremely boring and underwhelming compared to the old ones out of box. Ive fixed it with eq and added back the bass and more importantly the treble, the bright sparkle the dt 990 is known for. Without eq these just sound uninspiring and i wouldn’t want to use them. It’s all mids, female voices sound distant and muffled and bass is just a suggestion. If i wanted flat sounding headphones i would’ve grabbed the hd600 or any other number of cans out there.Though i’ll keep these because comfort wise they are the comfiest headphones i own and can wear them for hours. I like the little cutout in the middle of the headband and maybe it’s just new ear pads but they feel deeper and my ears fit better. And of course they still have that spacious soundstage just as good as the og.If you can eq the bass and treble then i’d say it’s as good as the og but recently they raised the price from 200 to 230 and it’s harder to justify when the og sounds better out of box. But for me i’ll take the upgrade of slightly comfier fit, removable cable, and lower impedance to use on more devices.

my new daily drivers
I own 5 beyerdynamic headphones now. i fell in love with the dt 770 pros in 2017 and since then have acquired the dt 990 pros, the dt 700 pro x, the dt770 pro x limited editions, and not the dt 990 pro x. these sound fantastic for music and great in games. comfortable like all beyer products and the removable cable is a bonus! They do have a bit of a plastic smell but its not strong and not noticeable on your head. will fade over time

Love this product . I am not much of a headphone guy ( prefer speaker sound ) as an audiophile, but they are sleek lookin* , very comfortable, great dynamics ,deep ,clean base – good enough for me . Recommended
